1998 classic rover mini paul smith le
The special edition Mini Paul Smith LE was released in 1998 in a limited edition of 1800 units, of which only 300 cars were allocated to the home market. All 300 UK Minis were available in striking Paul Smith blue hue, a colour specially selected by the renowned fashion designer, over a black leather interior. Each car was built to a distinctive and instantly recognisable specification, to include charcoal grey 12” Minilite alloy wheels, twin spot lamps, 24ct gold enamelled “Paul Smith” bonnet badge, “Paul Smith” rear window sticker, full black leather trim, colour-coded dash with Paul Smith scripted instrument graphics and a citrus green glovebox interior, petrol tank and boot liner. As the most lavish Rover Mini ever produced up to that point, it also wore a premium price tag, becoming the first edition to retail at over £10,000.
This superb Mini Paul Smith is one of only 300 examples produced for the UK market. It left factory assembly in April 1998 and was supplied new by Hartwell Rover Bath in September 1998. The Mini has a page feature in the October 2023 issue of MiniWorld Magazine and the odometer currently displays approximately 71,460 miles.
As with all Paul Smith models, this example is finished in Paul Smith blue hue with a citrus green British Isles grille badge, over a black leather-trimmed interior. Under the bonnet resides a 1275cc multipoint injection engine producing around 62bhp through a four-speed manual transmission. It is clear that a lot of money has been spent on the Mini in recent years as it has been sensibly upgraded with a Maniflow LCB manifold, a Maniflow exhaust system, Gaz A shock absorbers, negative camber brackets, a K&N air filter, an adjustable heavy-duty tie-bar kit, Adjusta Ride suspension, a Surestop brake kit, drilled and slotted brake discs, EBC front brake pads, a quick-shift gear lever, and a concealed 12-volt auxiliary socket. Significant restorative maintenance was carried out between 2015 and 2016, which included new wings, scuttle, A-panels, door skins, front panel, and rear hinge panel heritage body panels, as well as a new rear subframe, all new nuts and bolts as required, new rear drums, shoes and brake pipes, a brake servo, clutch master and slave cylinders, and a new radiator expansion tank.
The Mini is in delightful condition and presents remarkably well with even colour finish throughout and excellent glass and trim. It rides on a correct set of 12-inch Minilite alloy wheels, which are recently refurbished, shod in recommended Yokohama A539 tyres. The cabin is in fine order and the engine bay and boot are remarkably clean. The Mini has correct vended sills both sides and is a joy to drive. The engine is strong and pulls impeccably and the gear synchros are all in good order with no crunches on changes.
The Mini is sold recently serviced and MOT'd with no advisories. Notably, the Mini also passed its previous two MOTs without any advisories. Supplied with the Mini is a comprehensive history file dating back to the point of first registration, which includes a fully-stamped service book.
